If you have ever wondered how mobile apps were created or how the concept came about you have come to the right place. I just like you were curious to know how the tiny little thing that helps me in so many ways came about. I did my research and was chatting about it with my friends, who seemed incredibly fascinated. This made me think about how many more people probably wonder about it too. So here I am back again with yet another blog post.

The word apps is an acronym for the word application which means to put something into operation. Applications or apps as we like to call them help us execute tasks and get them. There are a wide variety of apps ranging from computer apps that include spreadsheets to mobile apps that include WhatsApp. In this post I will specifically be talking about mobile apps but if other apps interest you feel free to have a chat with me in the comments section.

Funnily enough, the first app to be developed as a mobile app. It was the snake game on the Nokia phones. Yes, that very game that all of us from the millennials to gen z have played at least once in our life. Now I know that the snake game from 1997 is not exactly what we envision as an app. What we associate with apps, as common as they may seem have not been around for very long. They made their debut along with the smartphones. That may make you think that they do not have a lot of history but it is the exact opposite. They have so much history that I need to decide what to tell you and what not if I do not want a ton of blog posts on the same topic.

No talk about mobile apps can be complete without the mention of app developers and mobile app development companies. They are the reason apps exist, to begin with. A normal person aka a mobile app developer who is just like you and me comes up with a plan for an app, approaches a mobile app development company, and works with them to bring the app to life. Obviously, the first app did not just drop out of the blue, it was introduced by Nokia. However, what I found out after hours of research was that the world of technology believes that the first app developer was indeed Steve Jobs. In 1983 Steve Jobs came up with a very basic version of the app store. He basically thought of a place where people could buy software through their phones. I tunes was a precursor for the apple app store that was introduced later.

If we talk about a first real app. Neither I nor anyone else could tell you what it was. The apple app store launched with 500 apps so basically 500 apps were released on the same day. An extremely grand welcome to the world of apps if you ask me but due to that grand welcome we will never know which one came about first.

Up until 2014, the most used apps were either games or social media and their creators were the first to reap the benefits of app culture. From 2014 onwards though there was a shift towards lifestyle apps. Not like that meant social media apps were not used anymore, it meant that more apps were welcomed. Apps that allowed people to buy products, make a living, and give people a glimpse into their life.

It was the development of these apps that enabled many people to establish their businesses, it gave small businesses the push they needed. If you created an app and used it wisely you were bound to succeed. Now, here we stand today 14 years later, with apps being just as famous and just as widely used. The one thing that may have changed in all this while is that we have become more critical of the apps we support and do not just accept anything. We have become more progressive, which is something I couldn’t be prouder of.

I hope you enjoyed reading about how on earth the apps we use every day without even thinking twice about came into existence. I hope this makes you want to look more into the things you use regularly cause trust, me it is fun to do your research and find out.
